the best birthday present

We've had this little project going on for awhile. Around Christmas we thought we'd give Vanessa a play kitchen. Caleb looked and looked for a piece of furniture he could build one into for a long time and finally came across this entertainment center on craigslist for 30 bucks.

The problem was he found it too late to have it done in time for Christmas. So it sat in our garage waiting. Life got a little busy having a baby and all and this project kept falling on the back burner. As we started thinking about Nay's birthday we decided it was time to get it done.
Caleb worked tirelessly to get it done for her. He'd come home after a long day at work, play with the kids, help clean up dinner and then head out to the garage and work till some ungodly hour.
He's such an incredible dada pouring his love into this little toy for Vanessa.
I can't believe I didn't get more pictures of the process (probably because I was sleeping or doing the midnight feeding:) But here is the finished product.

The stove top is just pieces of wood he cut, sanded, and painted. The knobs and handle on the oven came from Home Depot.

I had these little birdy pulls from a project I never did.

Caleb's mom bought the V for her.

Caleb made the towel bar and my mom had given me the towel a long time ago. (she loves birds)

The sink is a mixing bowl.

I still need to get a hook for her aprons.

She couldn't believe it. She walked slowly towards it and gently touched the knobs as we explained that it was hers. I don't think she believed us for awhile.

Elijah was as thrilled with her birthday present as she was. He kept saying "Nay this is your birthday."

Caleb's mom thought she had to have a new apron to go with her kitchen and of course if Vanessa has one shouldn't I have a matching one?

She hasn't stopped playing with it. In fact it's proven to be quite difficult to pull her away for things like, bathing, eating, or sleeping.
It's fun to watching her enjoy her gift so much. I'm privileged to have a husband that can work with his hands and sacrifices his sleep to see his kids smile.
